FAQ

Everything you need to know

1. Getting Started with Therapy

Who needs therapy, what to expect during the first session, how therapy works

How do I know if I need counselling or therapy?

You don't need to be experiencing a crisis to seek therapy. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling with emotions, navigating relationships, or simply seeking personal growth, therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for your therapist to understand your concerns, personal background, and goals. Together, you'll explore your needs and discuss how therapy can best support you.

How does therapy work?

Therapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist, providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and life experiences.

Through evidence-based psychological approaches, your therapist helps you gain deeper self-awareness, identify unhelpful patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and work towards meaningful personal growth.

Each session is personalised to your individual needs and goals, allowing you to progress at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive.

Therapy is not simply about giving advice, but empowering you with the understanding, tools, and skills to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and emotional resilience.

2. Your Therapy Journey

Session duration, frequency, confidentiality, therapeutic approaches

How long does each therapy session last?

Each individual therapy session typically lasts between 50 and 60 minutes, depending on the service provided.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

Everyone's journey is different. Some clients benefit from a few sessions, while others may prefer ongoing support. Your therapist will work with you to determine an approach that suits your needs and goals.

Is everything I share during therapy confidential?

Yes. Your privacy and confidentiality are important to us. All sessions are conducted in a safe, professional environment, with confidentiality maintained in accordance with professional ethical guidelines.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

Our therapists integrate evidence-based psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) and more.

Our therapists also provide Creative Therapeutic Approaches which includes Expressive Arts Therapy, Sand Play Therapy and Play Therapy which are suitable for both children and adults.

4. Therapy for Children & Teenagers

Supporting young minds through every stage of growth, with care, understanding, and guidance.

How can therapy help my child or teenager?

Therapy provides a safe and supportive space for children and teenagers to explore their emotions, express their concerns, and develop healthier coping skills.

Depending on their needs, therapy may help with emotional regulation, anxiety, self-esteem, behavioural difficulties, school-related stress, peer relationships, family conflicts, and personal development.

Our therapists use age-appropriate approaches, including creative and expressive techniques when suitable.

Will parents be involved in their child's therapy?

Yes. Parental involvement can be an important part of supporting a child's therapeutic progress.

Depending on the child's age, needs, and circumstances, our therapist may involve parents through initial consultations, parenting guidance, or scheduled progress discussions.

We aim to balance parental involvement with the child's need for privacy, trust, and a safe therapeutic relationship.

Will I know what my child discusses during therapy?

We understand that parents naturally want to know how their child is doing.

However, maintaining appropriate confidentiality is essential in helping children and teenagers feel safe to express themselves openly to their therapist.

Our therapist may share general progress, therapeutic goals, and recommendations for parental support without disclosing every detail discussed during sessions.

Where there are significant safety concerns or safeguarding obligations, relevant information may need to be shared in accordance with professional and legal requirements.

How will I receive updates about my child's progress?

Progress updates may be arranged through dedicated parent consultation sessions, where the therapist can discuss general observations, therapeutic progress, and practical recommendations for supporting your child at home.

These discussions are conducted with appropriate consideration for your child's confidentiality and therapeutic needs.

How many sessions will my child need?

Every child's therapeutic journey is different. The number of sessions depends on their concerns, individual needs, engagement, and therapeutic progress.

Your therapist will periodically review their progress and discuss suitable recommendations with you.
